2 years after his 17-year-old feline crossed the rainbow bridge, this man was won over by a shy ginger living alone in his factory; he fed the cat for months behind his animal-hating boss's back, and then finally brought him home

Hello So, there was a stray cat in the factory i work at, a young shy orange cat.

I feed him for months, which was pretty hard to do because the owner of the factory (sawmill and wooden flooring factory) hates animals, so he told everyone to just kick him to the streets. So it was a cover ops lol. I named him Sugi.

The cat was reacting fine, he was meowing at me every morning for food, he was letting me pet him, purred a lot and he started rubbing against me and against everything, we developed a good relationship. He used to follow me around a lot which was a problem because the owner of the factory saw him while he did.

With time i started feeling bad for him, i had a cat that d d 2 years ago (17 years old british) i know a bit about cats but not stray ones. So i decided to at least take him to the vet.

Took me another month to lure him into a cage lol but i made it and took him to the vet. While he was at the vet i decided i will be taking him to my home, i like his personality and i thought he would be better with me than living in the factory.

So the vet told me he's good but he has a dislocated hip (probably permanently because it's an old wound) and he has mycoplasmosis so i have to give him doxycycline. He was castrated, dewormed and everything else.

Ok, so after 5 days at the vet with everything done and the blood analysis done i took him home with my girlfriend (she loves cats).

Today is the begining of the 6th day, the first few days he was really scared but he was purring when i pet him and drinking, peeing, using his litter, etc. He has diarrhea so the vet told us to lower the dose of doxycycline (50 mg to 25mg per day) and i

started cooking him chicken with a bit of carrot. He eats the doxycycline with the chicken no problem but he spends the days in a corner, i wouldn't force him or anything but i would pet him, after the petting he sometimes comes out of the corner for a bit.

The thing is, the last two days he doesn't purrs to me anymore (he purrs with my girlfriend) but lately he dislikes me lol, not sure why, today when i said hi he didn't purr and then went away running to his corner so i decided to just kinda ignore him.

What am i doing wrong? i feel he dislikes me hard now, we where homies back in the factory. Am i ruining his life? does he wants to go back to the factory? should i take him there? July in Argentina is pretty cold, i was sure i was giving him a better life and all that but i'm not sure he agrees.

His health seems to be fine, he purrs with my girlfriend, he lets her clean him (with a little warm wet rag) and he even started cleaning himself a bit but i don't want to force him to live with me if he dislikes me. The plan for me now is to just plain ignore him and start feeding him (my girlfriend was feeding him because of schedules mostly)

Is hard to me to see him in a corner still for most part of the day, i know he's an energetic playful talkative cat, but he's doing none of it, i don't want to ruin his life.

EDIT: Thank you all for your answers! I'll just give him space, food and time, there is no rush, i just wanted to be sure i wasn't doing a huge mistake or doing him bad

Just want to tell you guys that he's doing GREAT. He's a non-stop purring machine, he plays with all his toys, he investigates and runs around, he loves to be with me and my girlfriend, he's very affectionate and now he likes to lie down and purr, he can do this for hours and hours.

We feel blessed for having him in our house, he's a great dude, he's comfortable with all the places of our home and he lost his fear of evil doors, he still has his doubts about doors but he's not afraid of anything at all anymore (except for guests, he still doesn't trust them).

He's really really affectionated and he's really attached. For example sometimes i lie at the couch and he comes in and coils to get comfortable purrs. He's smart, affectionated, vocal and just great guy overall.
